With so many trails to choose from at the Nordic Centre, which one should you ride? Our staff have gotten together and picked the best of the bunch! In no particular order, here are our favourites:
Smooth and flowy with big berms, jumps, drops and tight trees in the middle. This trail has it all!
The flow trail at CNC. Recently rebuilt with even more rollers, tabletops and the occasional hip. Soft Yog is the perfect trail for party laps.
Looking for old school tech? Look no further than No Homers.
The newest trail at CNC; Huge berms. Big jumps. Wall rides. Whale tails. Need we say more?
Black Coal Chute's little sister; this trail features fast flow up top, steep tech in the middle and a lightning-fast finish!
This trail couldn't get any looser! At the site of an old coal mine, you'll see where this trail got its name.
This trail is not for the faint hearted. So steep, you won't see what's coming 'til your front tyre hits it.
Looking for a sufferfest? These two climbs are perfect for those cardio-loving kings and queens.
This pleasant green takes you through the heart of our beautiful Provincial Park! There's nothing better than a scenic cruise on the Rundle Connector.
Below, you will find the answers to our most frequently asked questions about the trails at the Nordic Centre. Can't find what you're looking for? Call us on +1 (403) 678-6764!
The CNC's trails are predominantly natural and cross-country oriented. But, what does this mean? Well, in short, it means there is a lot of climbing to do as well as descending. You can expect continuous uphill and downhill riding on almost all of our blue and green trails, along with natural features such as roots, rocks and even small drops on some of our more difficult ones. Our natural black trails are more downhill focused. With larger/steeper natural features and the occasional built feature. A few of our trails are mostly man-made, including Odyssey, Soft Yogurt and Top Gun. On trails like these, you will find big berms, machine-made jumps and features. They offer a more flowy, modern style of riding. Feel free to ask any of our staff members for specific trail recommendations!
We'd always recommend a full-suspension mountain when riding at the Nordic Centre. That being said, as long as the bike has decent front suspension (100mm+), hydraulic disc brakes and its well-maintained, you should be able to get around a lot of trails. As the trails here are predominantly cross-country oriented (see above) we'd recommend a cross-country or trail mountain bike. These bikes are designed to work well uphill and downhill and usually have front and rear suspension between 100-160mm. At Trail Sports, we rent the latest and greatest full-suspension trail and enduro bikes at a modest price! Click here to visit our bike rental page.
We would recommend that you take a novice onto double-track ski trails for their first ride. This will help keep them comfortable and make for an enjoyable first experience. Once, they're ready for the single track, our most suitable green trails would be Get In/Get Out and Rundle Connector. These are green trails which would be suitable for beginners or people looking to build confidence on single track trails.
Carrying bear spray is always recommended when recreating outside in the Bow Valley. We rent bear spray for only $10 a day, which is a cost-saving alternative to outright buying a can. Click here for more tips from Alberta Parks on how to be 'Bear Smart'.
