DROP-IN First-Level Mountain Bike | Beginner Lesson

Participant-centred instruction based on three of the fundamental skills of mountain biking: Position and balance, operation of controls, and terrain awareness.

DROP-IN Next-Level Mountain Bike | Intermediate Lesson

Develop the intermediate skills of mountain biking (direction control, pressure control, and timing and coordination) on more challenging terrain, like steeper hills, corners and natural rolls. Must be comfortable on blue trails. This does not include drops and jumps. Looking to get some air? Check out our Intro to Air course!

Learn to Mountain Bike | Beginner Course

New to single-track trails, learn the fundamentals of mountain biking and be introduced to riding the trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

1.5-hr morning lesson, 30-min break, 1.5-hr guided ride.

“Back in the Saddle” Mountain Bike Refresher | Beginner Course

Build on single-track experience, increase confidence in climbing and descending, and explore new trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

1.5-hr morning lesson, 30-min break, 1.5-hr guided ride.

New! Adult Intro to Air | Intermediate Course

Learn fundamental progressions to get wheels off the ground in a comfortable and encouraging setting.

 

Mandatory Equipment:

  • A mountain bike capable of trail and bike-skills park riding (i.e. dirt jumper is not appropriate)
  • Knee pads

Recommended Equipment:

  • Full-face helmet
  • Elbow pads
  • Bike gloves

Adult Air Camp | Intermediate Four-Week Series

Led by a PMBIA-certified Level 2 Air instructor in a bike-skills park setting; This four-week camp introduces the techniques for getting air on tabletop jumps and drops in a comfortable and encouraging learning environment. The Air-focused guided riding segment later in the series will help you apply and refine your skills on the trail. 

 

Mandatory Equipment:

  • A mountain bike capable of trail and bike-skills park riding (i.e. dirt jumper is not appropriate)
  • Knee pads

Recommended Equipment:

  • Full-face helmet
  • Elbow pads
  • Bike gloves

 

Thursday Evenings, 6-8pm

2 hours per session (8 hours total)

Next-Level Tech | Intermediate Courses

For intermediate riders who are looking to build on their fundamental skills and ride with more efficiency and flow. Sign up for one, two or all three sessions in this technical series led by a PMBIA Level 2 instructor. Next-Level Tech covers cornering, riding steep terrain, efficient climbing and technical manoeuvres.

 

In order to maximize the rider’s progression, Trail Sports recommends registering for all three sessions:

  • Session 1 - Cornering with flow and efficiency
  • Session 2 - Descending steeps with confidence and speed
  • Session 3 - Intro to natural rolls and drops

 

Friday Evenings, 4-6pm

Monday Weekly Ride | Beginner Eight-Week Series

New to single track? Learn the fundamentals of mountain biking, build fitness and learn the trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Weekly fun and instruction all summer long.

Pedals ‘n Petals with Deborah Foley | Therapeutic Horticulture Guided Ride

Stop and smell the flowers. Literally.

 

As an avid mountain biker and plant lover, bike instructor Deborah Foley finds that knowledge and awareness of the vegetation she rides through adds to the enjoyment and experience on the trails. To her, this is riding beyond fitness and adrenaline!

 

In bike season, scenery at the Canmore Nordic Centre changes weekly with new vegetation, layers of green, flowers that emerge and scents in the air. Pedals ‘n Petals offers riders of all ages a new way to experience the slower side of mountain biking with an increased appreciation of the area’s foliage. Enjoy lessons in plant identification, habitat range, the plant's role in wildlife as a food source or nesting material, medicinal use, traditional Indigenous use, endangered plant species, foraging regulations, and respectful, sustainable foraging tips.

 

Embark on this unique biking experience, where stopping for a break is an opportunity to learn. Perfect for curious minds who like to explore nature. Families are welcome.

 

Ride easy double- and single-track trails and explore the flora of the Canadian Rockies.
